Jayda:
We had tons of fun in Germany and Austria with Matt and Brandy. We went to a really neat monastery where they brew beer. We traveled all over southwestern Germany visiting castles and cathedrals and such. We stayed in Munich one night and went to a place that had been brewing beer for hundreds of years. All the workers were dressed in traditional German attire and there was live music. Then we traveled to Salzburg. This was the town Mozart came from. We walked around the little shops and had some delicious food. On our way back we stopped in Munich again to visit a museum. It was the most visited in Germany and one could see why. There was so much to see that we didn't even make it through before they closed. We spent new years eve in Frankfurt, which was quite an experience. The Germans go a little crazy with their fireworks to say the least. Everywhere you walked you had to dodge being hit. On new years day we headed off to Athens.
Our flight to Athens was quite fun. They gave us champagne and traditional new years cake to celebrate new years Greek style. We stayed in Athens overnight then caught the ferry to Santorini the next day. Our ferry ride was quite an adventurous one. We got caught in some kind of storm and had to dock overnight. We ended up sleeping on the floor of this boat and the six hour ride turned into a 24 hour one. But everything was all worth it when I awoke the next morning to the most beautiful site I have ever seen! The water is so blue and crystal clear here! The little towns look like something straight out of a movie. There's little white houses everywhere and the blue domed churches just like in pictures. I can only imagine what this place might be like in the summer! We rented this little room that is basically an apartment. The owners are so kind. They gave us homemade wine and produce from their garden. We even have a kitty I let sleep with us last night. We named her Perissa, after the town we are staying in. I could so live here! I am sitting on the beach as I write this. I will post pictures asap so you can see the beauty for your self :)
Chris:
Today I am writing my post from a beach in Santarini, Greece. It is a black beach that was formed from lava. Greece so far has been amazing. We left the company of Matt and Brandy behind in Germany after the new year. The time we spent together was wonderful. Not only to meet up with friends on the other side of the world but to have such a pleasant visit with them as well. We traveled all around southern Germany and also went into Austria for a few days. The food there was amazing and the beer was not to bad either. The German people as a whole did not impress me much. They were friendly but did not go out of their way to help you. Brandy's family was great and we truly appreciated the warm hospitality they provided.
We spent new years in Frankfurt which was insane. I have holes in my jacket from fireworks to prove it. I'll use Matt's words by saying " that's the closest thing to a riot we will probably ever experience." Germans apparently have no rules about fireworks on holidays. However we made it through and have another story to tell.
So here we are in Greece. The first 2 days were a little rocky. Night one we stayed in a hostel that was not the nicest place we have stayed to say the least. Day 2 we got onto a ferry for Santarini expecting to arrive about 1 am. Things change... The ship could not dock because of high winds and waves. We spent the night on the ferry in the floor. Day 3 we loaded a different boat and did make it to Satarini. Its nice here and the people are great. We stopped the other night into a bakery for a bottle of water and realized it was cash only. We had spent all the cash we had except 50 cents. The business owner who had never seen either of us before offered to let us get what we needed and return the following day to pay. We couldn't believe it but the bottle of water was only 40 cents so we were able to pay. But we will return to buy something from such a generous and trusting man. Well so long for now back to walking the beach and enjoying the beautiful springlike weather here in Greece.
