Leaving Santorini

Jayda:
Santorini has been soo nice! The weather has been perfect every day. Chris said it has been our vacation in our vacation and it really has been that. We have slept in everyday and just did whatever. The downside has been that since its winter there is little to do. Apparently since their economy suffers in the winter, they all go to Athens for work. So I will be glad to have human contact again and be able to choose between more than a few restataunts. Although, I am going to miss the peacefulness of this little island. I'm going to miss the little restataunt on the beach and the bakery down the road. The little bakery has to be my favorite on Earth. The little baker speaks perfect English and is super kind(he is the one chris wrote about) and of course he makes delicios pastries by hand each day. Its so odd how you get attached to a place after a while. So
I am going to leave you with one last story, a funny one:
As I said before we have taken this little cat in and feed her and let her sleep inside. She is always hungry, its so funny! The neighbors( who have been her for 9 months) have been feeding her since she was a baby. Anyways she goes back and forth between begging at our door and theirs. We ran out of cat food so I have been feeding her some of our leftovers and she's so picky that she has gotten to the point if she doesn't like it she will just leave. The funniest part is this morning she was at our door begging as usual and I did not feel like getting up so I ignored her. Then all the sudden I heard a noise ok our balcony. Somehow this cat climbed to our balcony and was now meowing at that door! How on earth was she smart enough to figure out that we had two doors?!? Now little Perissa(yes we named her) is curled up on the blankets where she usually sleeps at the end of our bed. I guess she just wanted some attention. Poor kitty is going to be lost when we leave, but I'm sure someone else will fall in love with her friendliness. Off to Athens!!! Bon Voyage!

Chris:
Today we leave Santarini. It has been a nice week of relaxing and catching up on sleep. This is a beautiful place. Though it is their winter it is like our spring. The people here are very friendly and most are very helpful. We did encounter a problem with doing laundry however. When we finally found a laundromat the women wanted 12 euro for a load of laundry. That's about $20 for a load. I talked her down to 9 euro but still told her to forget about it. We went back to the hotel for sink washing and balcony drying.
People here drive scotters. Loud, fast and smoke producing scotters. They also drive around with no helmet on doing about 60 mph on this little island. We were on the beach the other day enjoying a glass of wine with some stuffed grape leaves and cheese pies ( both were delicious by the way ), when we heard a squeal from a tire and a crash. Someone had hit a guy on a scooter with their car. He didnt have a helmet on and had busted passed us doing a wheelie. We sprung up to check on the situation expecting the worse. However to our surprise the guy was up walking around. A few minutes later the car drove off and things were business as usual. In fact the scooter driver drove past us again picked up a passenger and returned smoking a cigeratte to show his buddy where he had wrecked. This must happen frequently because the locals didnt even seem the least bit phased.
We adopted a pet while here. A cat which we named perissa after the city we stayed in. Its hard to leave her. She is a very friendly cat that is orange like Garfield. She eats our leftovers and wines at the door to come in. It was nice to have an animal around for a few days in the abscents of our own pets at home.
I will miss this place from the beautiful sunsets to the the local baker, who was also our island guild. But we have to say goodbye and move on with the next leg of our journey. Off to Athens to see the acropolis and the Parthenon.
